Our newest ritual features the most iconic part of DUBANYA’s private banya treatment: three rounds of steam and aromatherapy with venik treatment and a cold plunge recharge, organic honey and salt body scrub, and foam wash. Performed by two therapists simultaneously for maximum effect, the ritual itself takes only 90 minutes, bringing the body to a relaxed state, perfectly prepared for the following massage therapy.
Part II: Massage therapy – 90 min
A comprehensive five-step massage treatment focused on restoring the body, mobilization of tendons and joints, improving lymphatic flow, blood circulation, and relieving muscle spasms – especially suited for recovery after physical exercise to restore the body's balance, leaving a feeling of lightness and deep relaxation. The five steps include massage, vacuum and magnetic therapy, myostimulation, and manual therapy.
The person doing the banya should be wearing a specifically designed traditional banya hat made from felt or wool, in order to protect the head and hair from the heat.
Water is poured on the stoves to control the temperature and create a humid steam. Another traditional attribute used inside the steam room is a ‘venik’, which is a bundle of leafy birch or oak branches, first softened in warm water to become gentle to the touch. The veniks are applied in rhythmic strokes, gently tapping the body. This allows not only to exfoliate the skin, but also to allow the steam to penetrate deeper into the skin layers, as well as the organs of the human body.
After the body is warmed up enough, one takes a dip in a cold plunge pool (about 8 degrees Celsius), which increases blood circulation, stimulates the immune system and brings the body back to base temperature.
It is recommended to stay in the cold water for at least 1-2 minutes for maximum effect. The cold plunge is followed by the final steam inside the steam room.
Throughout the banya ritual, the guest variates between heat and the cold. With several steam sessions in the banya, it is important to bring the body back to base temperature, that’s why snow can be used to cool down inside the steam room, or one can take a refreshing shower. This routine allows to slowly and safely bring the body to the optimal state, ready for the final steam.
After the body scrub, the journey is concluded by a foam wash with natural lyko, which is a bast made from natural tree fibers to create the foam and exfoliate the skin.
Finally, one relaxes on the hay bed, restores water balance with teas and water.
During this stage the body is prepared for the following treatments, the therapist identifies if there are any areas that require extra attention.
